SSL Certificates and HTTPS

Updated 2 days ago

What is SSL/HTTPS?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates enable HTTPS, making your website connection secure and encrypted. When HTTPS is enabled, visitors see a padlock icon in their browser's address bar, indicating a secure connection.

Free SSL Certificates

Berta.me automatically provides and installs SSL certificates for all hosted websites at no additional cost. This includes:

  • Built-in domains (yoursitename.berta.me)
  • Custom domains (your own domain name)

How to Get SSL for Your Custom Domain

  • First, configure your domain's DNS settings as described in our domain setup guide
  • Once DNS is properly configured, Berta.me will automatically detect your domain
  • The SSL certificate will be generated and installed automatically

Important Notes

  • Generation Time: SSL certificate generation is not instant. It typically takes up to 30 minutes after proper DNS configuration
  • DNS Requirements: Make sure your DNS settings are exactly as specified in the setup guide
  • Verification: You can verify the SSL is working by checking for the padlock icon in your browser when visiting your site
  • Auto-renewal: Certificates are automatically renewed before expiration - no action needed from you

Troubleshooting

If your SSL certificate is not generating after 1 hour:

  • Double-check your DNS settings
  • Ensure all DNS changes have propagated (can take up to 24 hours)
  • Contact support if issues persist

Benefits of HTTPS

  • Secure data transmission
  • Better search engine rankings
  • Increased visitor trust
  • Required for many modern web features
